Simmer for Scent

On they have several recipes to make your house smell wonderful while entertaining this holiday season.  I'm going to try this Mulled Cider to drink and perfume my house.



  • 2 quarts apple cider
  • 2 cinnamon sticks
  • 2 whole allspice berries
  • 2 whole cloves
  • 1 orange, thinly sliced


Place all ingredients in a large saucepan and bring to a simmer on the grates of the grill or over a burner. Divide among individual mugs and serve hot.

Cranberry Cocktail

Here's another way to enjoy your cranberries this Thanksgiving.  The Cranberry Bog Cocktail!



  • 4 ounces champagne
  • 1 ounce cranberry juice
  • Whole cranberries, for garnish
  • Mint leaves, for garnish


Combine champagne and cranberry juice in a champagne flute. Drop a few whole cranberries in the glass and garnish with mint leaves.

Hot Apple Ginger Toddy

This weekend in Alabama it FINALLY started getting cool outside and I LOVE it!!  Nothing beats sitting outside by a fire.  The cooler weather made me go on the hunt for a warm cocktail.  Check out this recipe from .  Hope you are enjoying cooler nights!



6 oz. ginger-infused apple cider
Thin slice of fresh ginger or one piece of crystallized, candied ginger
1 tsp. honey
2 oz. bourbon (Maker's Mark or Jim Beam are preferred)
Slice of lemon


First: Ginger-infuse the cider.

  1. Peel and chop the ginger.
  2. Bring apple cider to a boil in a nonaluminum pot.
  3. Add several slices of cut and peeled ginger when cider boils.
  4. Turn heat off and steep for 30 minutes.
  5. Purée this mixture in a blender and strain through cheesecloth.
  6. Refrigerate until ready to use.

Second: Make your ginger toddy.

  1. Heat your ginger-infused cider, but do not boil.
  2. Add bourbon.
  3. Stir in honey.
  4. Pour into a coffee mug.
  5. Garnish with lemon and ginger slice (or use crystallized ginger

A Dazzling Discovery

I just discovered the neatest website:!  There is a ton of info on cocktails and recipes, etc. but the best part about it is their FREE personalized liquor labels!!  You must register on their site, then you can order up to 5 FREE personalized labels a month!  My husband's 30th bday is coming up so I ordered him one for a Crown Royal bottle.  You could use these for any occasion:  birthdays, Christmas, graduation, etc. etc...Delivery takes two weeks.  I'll let you know how mine turns out!

Sangria Recipe

I am busy planning my 30th birthday party and have decided to have a Mexican Fiesta! I'll have photos and such up next week from it but wanted to share with you my sangria recipe. That's what I am planning to serve as one of the beverages. You can purchase the mix with fruit and spices off of! I use the Brandy recipe but you can use red or white wine and omit the Brandy...

Mixed Fruit Sangria

One package of Mixed Fruit Sangria
One 750 ml bottle of red or white wine
One cup of Brandy
Cut pieces of fruit like orange, lime, apple or peach
Add a cup or so of club soda

Mix together in large pitcher, let set for a few hours for best taste. Pour in glass over ice and top with club soda. Enjoy!


Another Fall Cocktail

I know there are a lot of people who love pumpkin pie-how about in a drink??? I found this on Rachel Ray I haven't tried it yet, let me know what you think! Would be great for a Halloween or Thanksgiving gathering..

Pumpkin Pie Martini

Makes 2 drinks

Ice cubes
2 ounces (1/4 cup) vanilla vodka
2 ounces (1/4 cup) crème de cacao
1/4 cup heavy cream
1 teaspoon pumpkin pie spice
Whipped cream, for garnish

1. Fill a cocktail shaker halfway with ice cubes. Add the vanilla vodka, crème de cacao, heavy cream and pumpkin pie spice and shake well.
2. Dip the rims of 2 martini glasses into a bowl of whipped cream. Strain the cocktail into the glasses


Creepy Cocktail: Vampire Kiss Martini

Halloween is right around the corner and I am so excited! It is one of the most festive, fun times of the year. There are so many ways to transform decor, food and drink from ordinary to extra creepy!

Here is a cocktail recipe I found on, it is from one of my favorite shows: Semi-Homemade Cooking with Sandra Lee. Enjoy!

Vampire Kiss Martini

1 part vodka, chilled
1 part Champagne
1 part Chambord
Garnish with wax teeth/candy corn/blood orange slice

Pour vodka in a martini glass, top with Champagne and pour a little of the Chambord over the back of a spoon to make it float.


Cosmo Bites

1-1/2 cups boiling cranberry juice cocktail
3 pkg. (4-serving size each) JELL-O Brand Raspberry Flavor Gelatin
1/2 cup vodka or water
1/4 cup lime juice
STIR boiling juice into gelatin mix in large bowl until completely dissolved. Add vodka and lime juice; mix well.

POUR into 8-inch pan sprayed with cooking spray. Refrigerate 4 hours or until set.

CUT into 24 triangles. Store in refrigerator.
